Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Friday (2009-10-09) said the government is ready to bring the Dhulikhel located IT (information and technology) park into operation in an organized manner through its direct involvement.

PM Nepal made this remark at a meeting of the High-Level Information Commission at Dhulikhel of Kavre district today morning.

During the nearly two hour-long meeting, the prime minister sought clarification from the Commission’s members on why the IT park couldn’t be operated in an effective and organized manner.

He also directed the Commission to come up with a clear module to utilize the IT park to its optimum for the development of information and technology sector in the country.

Stating that the IT park will be brought into operation through a separate policy, PM Nepal also expressed commitment that he will take special initiatives for the development of the information and technology sector in the country.

Speaking to media-persons after the meeting, he informed that the meeting also decided to establish an IT centre at the Prime Minister’s office.

PM Nepal further blamed the political instability in the country behind the IT park not coming into operation even five years after being built.

“This is why we have not been able to utilize the IT park towards its potential,” he said.

The one and only IT Park in the country had fallen into disuse after being abandoned by an IT management company within three months of taking up the responsibility to operate it.

Now US-based multinational computer technology corporation IBM will run the Information Technology (IT) Park.

The high level meeting of Information Technology Commission held in Kavre on Friday handed over the responsibility to the IBM. Nepalnews.com
