SLC examinee ‘raped’

Two men have allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl who was staying at her sister’s house in Patan for the School Leaving Certificate exams. “Going by our preliminary investigation and complaints from the victim’s kin, the girl appears to have been raped,” said DSP Bishnu Bahadur Karki. He, however, said a medical report is due to be received. Police have arrested Amar Awasthi and Sagar Bhatta on the rape charge. Meanwhile, a team of the National Human Rights Commission arrived in the district on Saturday to take stock of the situation. “The officials discussed the incident. They demanded investigation into the case and action against the guilty,” said Chief District Officer Gobindamani Bhurtel. According to NHRC Far-western chief Tikaram Pokharel, the victim’s relatives claimed that one of the arrested had raped the girl.
