FDNF raises ruckus over Tharu's arrest
THT ONLINE

KATHMANDU: Federal Democratic National Forum (FDNF) criticised the media coverage regarding the arrest of its party chairman Laxman Tharu on Tuesday.

Speaking at a press meet organised in the capial today, party vice-chairman Rajeev Gurung urged the media to unveil the name of the girl connected with the Tharu incident.

“Media did not cover the news about the guest house owner and instead it focused only on Tharu. I request the media to reveal the details of the girl in question,” Gurung stressed.

Gurung further said that FDNF has taken Tharu’s arrest as a conspiracy against the freedom of the nation.

The party has already formed a 5-member committee to investigate the incident.

Tharu was arrested red-handed indulging in immoral activities with a 20-year-old girl Radhika Magar (name changed) from Shree Ganesh Guest House at Bagbazaar on Sunday.

Out from police custody, Laxman Tharu threatens to take 'action' against media

Federal Democratic National Party (FDNP) chairman Laxman Tharu has challenged the media to prove he was arrested by the police along with a 'sex worker'.

Speaking at the Reporters Club a day after his release from police custody on Wednesday, Tharu threatened to take action against the daily newspapers that published the news about his arrest from a guest house in Bagbazaar on Sunday if they do not 'correct' the news.

He also challenged the media to bring the alleged sex worker, Radhika Thapa of Dolakha, he was reported to have been caught with.

Tharu who has been 'suspended' from the FDNP pending investigation argued that the government authorities would sent him to jail instead of releasing him if he had indeed committed any crime.

However, Police Superintendent Ramesh Kharel, the chief of the Metropolitan Police Range, Hanuman Dhoka, said Tharu was freed on humanitarian ground. Kharel said there is a tradition of freeing detainees with minor charges before Dashain festival.

Laxman Tharu challenges to prove charge against him

Chairman of Sanghiya Loktantrik Rastriya Party Laxman Tharu on Wednesday challenged the authorities concerned to prove his alleged involvement in "indecent and sexual activity".

Speaking at a press meet at Reporters’ Club in the Capital, Tharu questioned why he was not put in prison if he was nabbed red-handed with a sex worker.

Claiming that he was arrested and taken to a Bagbazaar hotel by civilians, he said that the whole incident was plotted to defame him.

"Why was the woman not detained if I was held with her?" Tharu questioned.

He also took serious exception over the news reports that he was caught red-handed indulging in "indecent and sexual activity" with Radhika Thapa Magar of Dolakha. He warned that he will go to court for justice if the news reports were not corrected.

Police had arrested Tharu last Sunday from Shree Ganesh Guest House in Bagbazaar. Tharu, who championed the Tharu movement, was later released on the condition to appear before the District Administration Office, Kathmandu.
